Metabolic Rate

It seems metabolic rate is the buzz word these days. So what is it? And why is it so important? We can answer these questions and show you how to put your metabolic rate into OVERDRIVE.

What is Metabolic Rate?

Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the amount of energy used while at rest. This energy is used to maintain bodily functions such as, muscle contractions of the heart and intestines, brain, liver, sex organs, and regulating body temperature.

Why is Metabolic Rate so important?

The faster your Metabolic Rate the more energy you consume in a given time. This means more fat loss when at rest.

What will increase my Metabolic Rate?

Increasing Muscle Tone: toned muscle requires more energy to survive and so increase your metabolic rate. Long distance running actually decreases muscle tone and so SLOWS DOWN your metabolic rate.

Quality protein enriched diet: no I am not talking Atkins here. Eating more quality protein will raise your metabolism as your system speeds up and uses more energy to break down these foods. This is Thermogenesis. Protein is also an essential part of muscle repair during toning.

Do you have a Slow Metabolism?

80% of energy expenditure comes from your metabolism. This explains why people with a fast metabolism can eat more and burn more calories than people with slower metabolisms.
